When I discovered Smithmore Castle nestled in the mountains of North Carolina, I thought it would be the perfect venue for a writers' retreat. As large and luxurious as the castle is, however, there are only enough rooms/suites for me and five other writers (unless you're willing to double up with a guest you bring).
